1. What is your number one reason for wanting to serve on the school board?

I feel that I can serve and represent Tri-Central community because I have and seek background knowledge that supports the decisions and discussions that a school board member would need to know and have. I have a BA in secondary education; although, I chose to go home to farm with my family and have not served as a teacher, I do have that background. My family and I have been and are currently employed by schools. I have lived in Prairie Township my entire life. All of these attributes help me when making decisions that affect Tri-Central Community Schools.

2. What role does policy play/have in the function of the board?

I feel that the role of the school board is to set the policy. This year, in particular, it has been important to discuss the safety and security of the students and staff as it relates to the current pandemic. Our role as the school board is to set policy and trust the administration and staff to implement the policy.

3. What do you think is the biggest issue facing your district?

I feel that declining enrollment is a concern for Tri-Central. I would like to ensure that Tri-Central has enticing educational and extra-curricular opportunities for students. I would like for Tri-Central to have competitive salaries for teachers and staff and to also have a culture where they feel supported, heard and valued. With these positive things, Tri-Central could grow and/or sustain the current population.

I do think Tri-Central has these things, but we could always be better!

4. If you were elected what one thing would you like to accomplish during your term?

I would like to ensure that Tri-Central has enticing educational and extra-curricular opportunities for students. I would like for Tri-Central to have competitive salaries for teachers and staff and to also have a culture where they feel supported, heard and valued.

5. What legislative action at the state level would you support to improve education in our community.

I believe that school should continue to be held harmless from I-LEARN scores for schools and teachers for the next two years. I am pleased that this has happened for schools. I continue to follow the I-LEARN scores and how they are used as relates to school funding and/or teacher compensation.
